Using The "Next Blog" Feature In Blogger Just Got More Relevant

Guest post by Dawn Farias

I have a confession to make: I LOVE the Blogger navbar.  I love it for my own blog because it is easy to get into my dashboard from it.  I love it on other people's blogs because of the search box right up top.  (Even if it's not a very powerful search engine.)  And I LOVE being able to just click 'follow' to add someone's blog to my list.  Yes, my world is thrown for a bit of a loopty-loop when it is missing from a Blogger blog.

But enough of all that.  I really only brought you all here together today to tell a small bit of news about ye olde Blogger navbar.  And I shall tell you in words straight from the official blog of Blogger: Blogger Buzz.

Some of you must have wondered what the Next Blog link on the NavBar does, and clicked on the link once or twice. Next Blog used to take you to a random blog, written by a random blogger. Your fellow blogger could have been writing her blog in a language that you don't know how to read. Or you might be someone who likes to read about food and restaurants in Germany, but your randomly chosen next blog could have been focused on sports, and written in Tagalog.

We've made the Next Blog link more useful, by taking you to a blog that you might like. The new and improved Next Blog link will now take you to a blog with similar content, in a language that you understand. If you are reading a Spanish blog about food, the Next Blog link will likely take you to another blog about food. In Spanish!
Try it! It works!  Just go to your favorite Blogger blog and click "Next Blog" from way up at the top of the screen where the navbar is.  See if you don't get redirected to a new favorite blog.

Well, you know, if the navbar is still there and all.  ;)

Wow this would be cool if it works for me, but maybe it's not yet working perfect.

But anyway, I really like the Nav Bar and never removed it and when this works it will be great to find new blogs:)
Thanks for sharing!

I will have to try it.. I do like having it there, as I always use it for access to the dashboard. In the past when I have done the next blog, it often would take me to one in a different language. So glad for the improvements.

Well, for me, it took me to Spanish blog. & then one about art. Then, it just kept cycling me through those two blogs.

That's great! It'll be fun to try it out.

I love my navbar too. I'm not exactly mad when an author hides it, but I very much prefer having it.

I tried it a couple of times and it no-workie. I think they have a few bugs to work out.

So, let's give it a few more days and I bet they'll have things working better.

Ha! This worked so perfectly the first time I did it! Ah well, I'm still loyal to the navbar. Although backsides may strain my loyalty. ;)

I love to surf blogs too, and when I come to one that doesn't have the navbar it frustrates me. Thanks for posting this.

The nav bar is one of the things that I miss most about our Blogger blog. It was quite handy.

And I never did check out the "next blog", like you suggested. Definitely something that I will need to do going forward. Thanks for the great tip!

Thanks for the help adding back the navigation bar, I love the new one especially since through another one of your links I learned how to make it transparent. I am also really liking how you can use it to actually find new blogs you really are interested in.
